Help Defeat Proposition 16
Imagine when decisions are made not based on merit, but on race. For example, Proposition 16 would allow the University of California to decide who gets into medical school based on race. That is, in effect, the power to decide who becomes a doctor. Instead, why not improve public schools and pre-med education to encourage and enable students of all races to get into medical school?
Minority students have experienced tremendous increases in admissions to UC since 1996.
Admissions rate for different racial groups reflect their application rates. Representation is not a problem.
The majority of Americans believe in merit as the primary factor of admissions: . A March 2019 Pew study finds that the majority of Americans (73%) say colleges and universities should not consider race or ethnicity in their student admissions. A 2016 Gallup poll concludes that 63% of Americans oppose race-based affirmative action and 70% support strictly merit-based college admissions.
Among states that do not ban racial preferences in college admissions and among private colleges, medical school admissions are detrimentally and systematically race-based. Stop! California should not join the ranks of racial discrimination to attack merit!
Proposition 16 is poisonous.
It enshrines race as the center of our universe. Why separate us by race? Indeed, so many Californians are truly multi-racial. Are we not of one race — the human race? Only by treating everyone equally can a state as brilliantly diverse as California be fair to everyone.
Proposition 16 is toxic.
Everyone can see with their own eyes that government is not discriminating by race. Government employees represent the racial diversity of California. And public schools have many problems, but race is not the issue, and treating youngsters as racial pawns is not the answer. And the latest figures for the University of California show a record qualified student enrollment representing our diverse racial heritage. Do we really want to risk Proposition 16, which gives untrustworthy and corrupt politicians the toxic and unprecedented power to decide major decisions, from pre-school and kindergarten to disability and old age, just on the basis of race?

Proposition 16 would STRIKE these precious words from our State Constitution:
“The state shall not discriminate against, or grant preferential treatment to, any individual or group, on the basis of race, sex, color, ethnicity or national origin in the operation of public employment, public education, or public contracting.”
Politicians claim that discriminating against people innocent of any wrongdoing will “fix” past discrimination. Their radical Proposition 16 would divide us by race when we desperately need to unite.
Not every Asian American or white is advantaged, nor every Latino or black disadvantaged. Reject stereotypes. Our state has people of all ethnicities who could use a little extra break. Current law allows diversity, but not based on race: for example, a state university giving a leg-up to admit a qualified student from a low-income family.
Don’t Give Politicians this Dangerous Power to Favor One Race over Another. Politicians will use race to award government contracts to high-bid cronies, costing taxpayers billions. Proposition 16 would use race to determine which school or class a child can attend, who gets into college or a profession or becomes a doctor, which employees are hired, promoted, laid off.

Those people who are faced with the Proposition in Cal., need to consider whether to election this monstrosity deserves to survives and the whether or not this is worthwhile!
