Wholesale price of eggs went down by 40%

Posted on | March 21, 2025 | No Comments

As of March 21, 2025, recent reports indicate that egg prices have decreased significantly in the United States. Based on available data, wholesale egg prices reached a peak of $8.17 per dozen in early March 2025, according to Trading Economics and USDA figures cited in Newsweek. By mid-March, these prices had dropped to around $4.90 per dozen, as reported in Forbes and other sources, reflecting a sharp decline of approximately $3.27 per dozen at the wholesale level. This represents a decrease of about 40% from the peak.

At the retail level, the drop is also notable but varies by region and lags behind wholesale changes. The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reported an average retail price of $5.90 per dozen for large Grade A eggs in February 2025. More recent USDA reports and media outlets like NPR and CNBC suggest that by mid-March, retail prices were trending downward, with national averages falling to around $4.90 to $5.51 per dozen. This indicates a retail decrease of roughly $0.39 to $1.00 per dozen from February’s high, though exact figures depend on location and retailer adjustments.
