Orange County Registrar of Voters Neal Kelley said Wednesday that Orly Taitz, a leader of the so-called birther movement, has qualified as a candidate.

She plans to challenge fellow Republican Damon Dunn, a former NFL player living in Irvine, for her party’s nomination.

Taitz has filed multiple lawsuits that claim Obama wasn’t born in the U.S.

Taitz, a native of the former Soviet Union, is a naturalized U.S. citizen.
