As of December 8, 2025, the body of Ran Gvili (also spelled Ran Gvili or Ran Gvili), an Israeli police officer killed on October 7, 2023, while fighting Hamas terrorists, has not been returned to Israel. His remains are the last hostage body still held in Gaza following the recent repatriation of Thai national Sudthisak Rinthalak’s body on December 3-4, 2025, as part of the ongoing ceasefire agreement.Hamas and Palestinian Islamic Jihad have reportedly been searching for his remains, including in Gaza City, and Israeli officials have stated that the groups know how to locate them. Israel has sent delegations to Cairo and applied pressure through mediators to secure his return before advancing to the next phase of the Gaza deal. The Gvili family, along with hostage advocacy groups, has urged that no progress be made on the ceasefire’s second phase until his body is repatriated.
