| House Speaker John Boehner is ignoring legislation introduced to forgo an increase in the debt limit as well as the campaign promises of 87 House Republican freshmen to stop further borrowing by the federal government, says the organizer of a campaign to freeze the debt limit at $14.3 trillion.
“There’s a real division brewing between the House Republican leadership and most of the rest of the 242 members,” said Joseph Farah, the force behind the “No More Red Ink” campaign that has catapulted the issue to the front burner in the Capitol. The campaign has already delivered 250,000 “red ink” letters to 242 House Republicans, encouraging them to defy their leadership and bring government spending and borrowing under control this year.
The growing controversy within the House Republican majority about the debt limit is being called Boehner’s defining moment as speaker. Boehner has repeatedly signaled to Barack Obama’s administration that he intends to play ball and raise the limit – even explaining in one media appearance that refusal to do so would cause the U.S. to default on its obligations. But the House Republican Study Committee, whose membership represents two-thirds of the Republican majority, is pushing a bill that would forestall a vote to raise the debt limit, authorizing the Treasury Department to prioritize debt payments when the ceiling is reached. The legislation “assures lenders that their investments in the United States government are entirely safe,” said Rep. Tom McClintock, R-Calif., the lead House sponsor. “Congress will still have to deal with the issue of the debt limit. It simply takes a default off the table.”
The campaign bringing attention to the debt limit vote – and particularly the House Republicans’ critical role in that vote – is an effort called “No More Red Ink.” Farah has repeatedly pointed out that Republicans were swept into power in November with the expectation they would stand up to more deficit spending. The campaign got an unexpected boost from Treasury Secretary Timothy F. Geithner last week who said an unexpected increase in tax revenues has postponed the necessity of such a vote for weeks because the debt limit is not expected to be reached until May 16, rather than earlier projections of the end of March. “This is a gift for all those who understand what’s at stake in this vote,” said Farah. “We now may have a little more time to make our case with House Republicans, who can unilaterally deny Obama any more wild spending plans and actually force Washington into making dramatic cuts in so-called ‘entitlements’ and other wealth- redistribution schemes.” “Unfortunately, if the House Republicans do not hear from the American people in strength, they will vote for business-as-usual deficit spending for the next two years and surrender the power they have to force fiscal responsibility on Barack Obama and the Democrats in the Senate,” says Farah. “House Speaker John Boehner says he wants to use the debt limit to wrangle concessions out of the Democrats, but when he signals, as he did last weekend, that Congress must raise the debt limit to keep the government solvent, he has already waved the white flag of surrender on the most important vote to be cast in Congress over the next two years.” With the Republicans holding 242 seats in the House, only 218 votes are needed to freeze the debt limit right where it is. However, the House Republican leadership says it will trade a hike in the debt limit for a promise by Obama and the Democrats to cut the budget. “I don’t understand this?” says Farah. “If you are holding a winning hand, why fold? Why trade away the power you have to force the first real cuts in the budget and the end of deficit spending for yet another promise that will not be kept?” For his part, Farah has made it easy for the public to make their voices heard in Washington in a powerful way. The “No More Red Ink” campaign will Flood their offices with “red ink” letters that remind them they are holding all the cards in getting government spending under control and that all they have to do is vote “no” on raising the debt limit. “This is a plan to separate the real economic conservatives from the pretenders,” said Farah. “If you want to reduce the debt that is destroying this country’s economy we have a chance right now to slam on the brakes. Once the debt limit is raised, it’s back to business as usual.” Republicans in the House hold all the cards, Farah points out, because of their majority. They don’t need a single Democratic vote to side with them to shut down borrowing. “At that point, Barack Obama can’t implement Obamacare,” he said. “From that moment onward, there will be no more spending initiatives by Obama for the next two years. There will be no more bailouts, no more ‘stimulus’ spending. It’s all over. In fact, the most significant budget cuts in modern American history will have to be made – and the Republican House will still have to approve them.” Farah says he can’t understand why so few conservatives and Republicans are pushing the idea. “I have to believe that most Americans are simply unaware of what is about to transpire,” he said. “Everyone is talking about the debt crisis – even Obama. But no one is talking about the opportunity we have to start reversing it right now. It’s always tomorrow, next year, next decade. That is a recipe for an even bigger disaster. Borrowing more is never a solution to a debt problem.”
A similar campaign organized by WND last year delivered more than 9 million “pink slips” to members of the House and Senate. Farah is hoping a similar response by Americans in the next few weeks will persuade House Republicans to oppose raising the debt limit. |
At least a half-dozen House members, including Rep. Michele Bachmann of Minnesota and Ron Paul of Texas, are outspokenly opposed to raising the debt limit. But the plan is catching on with many more as the avalanche of red paper messages pours into offices of the Republican majority

Boehner and Mitch McConnell both look like typical Beltway RINOs comfortable with the status quo. Neither inspires any hope as a leader to vigorously oppose 0bama. I strongly suspect that any early tea party resemblance these two had was simply a ruse.

It really gets me how people who seem to be intelligent when campaigning for public office,go completely stupid once they get elected. For instance when Boehner was elected to speaker, once he stopped crying (or has he stopped crying yet?) he is ready to give in to the democRATS on raiseing the debt limit, when he must know that the country can’t afford it. Instead, why not just throw out the trash in washington? Starting with Boehner, then the EPA that makes it almost impossible for businesses to do business in this country. No wonder they are moving overseas, it doesn’t take a rocket scientist to figure it out.It is obvious they don’t have anything to do when they pass their time regulating milk. This is so stupid. How many billion could be saved each year by closing the EPA? How much more revenue could be generated each year if business could operate without their hands tied? I don’t mean turn them loose to dump in out rivers and lakes or polute the air beyond legal limits,but I think business operators know the importance of keeping the envioriment clean, and the states can regulate what needs regulating. Also the states can fund their own roads and control the educating of their chrildren, so close the dept. of education and the dept. of transportation. Next stop funding PBS and NPR, these organizations are liberal outlets that serve one side of our population. Why should conservative tax dollars go to fund liberal outlets? Stop funding planned parenthood, this is nothing but a abortion clinic. Repeal the latest so called food saftey act that makes criminals out of law abiding citizens for growing a garden to help with their high grocery bills. I’m sure there is a lot more waste that can be cut without touching the entitlements like paid for seperate social security and medicare. This will never happen in washington because there is to much you fund me and I will kick back to you. How else can they go to washington near broke and in a few years own property in the bahamas that you they can cheat on their taxes and get away with it? Are they not all scum?

Last night, the House of Representatives’ Rules Committee shut down Rep. Steve King’s ability to offer an amendment to completely defund Obamacare on the continuing resolution to fund the government through the end of the year. House Republicans are now hiding behind parliamentary rules to say that it would somehow violate what the new Republican Majority is all about.
This is just complete and utter nonsense.
Obamacare was a mix of what is called discretionary and mandatory spending. King is trying to defund the entire law, but the parliamentarians are arguing that his amendment would be out of order (i.e. against House Rules) because it attempts to mess with programs that are not strictly discretionary.
But the thing that people need to understand about the House of Representatives is that every major bill that comes to the floor is governed by a “special rule” that sets the parameters of the debate and the amendment process for that bill. You don’t need a special rule to consider a bill, but House Rules are viewed as so inefficient and cumbersome that each bill needs its own special dispensation. And that is where the Rules Committee comes in and constructs a special rule that in essence waives House Rules. Normally, in a situation like this, the Leadership of either party, if they support what the rank and file member is trying to do, makes the amendment in order.”

At the state level, however, the issue continues to fester. This year’s bills, if passed, would create a requirement for presidential campaigns to prove candidates’ place of birth, a proviso that sponsors say would finally clear up the matter.
Election law attorneys say that if the bills are passed, states may be able to kick presidential candidates off the ballot for not complying — though a legal challenge would be very likely.
“The Constitution gives state legislatures plenary power to set the rules for choosing presidential electors. A state legislature, in theory, as Bush v. Gore acknowledges, could even take away the popular vote for the president and decide on the choice itself,” said Rick Hasen, a law professor and author of the respected Election Law blog.”

I’m sorry to tell you, but Michelle Bachmann just voted for the extension of the Patriot Act, with its snooping powers that infringe on the liberties of law-abiding citizens.
We need a courageous Reagan-type Republican to run in 2012, or a Libertarian like Ron Paul.

Ron Paul can’t even get support to have the FED audited, you are having pipe dreams of him becoming President, which will never happen. Basically Paul is used by the Democrats as a spoiler to keep a legitimate Conservative elected as President.
