Letter sent to my client, journalist Debbie Tharp, who was illegally arreste

Debbie,
I was personally quite moved and angered by your story of arrest, interrogation, harassment, abuse and brief incarceration at the hands of Costa Mesa police. This action was completely unnecessary and, as you point out, unconstitutional.
Regardless of political affiliation, more and more of us have confronted communities in Orange County where many governments have turned its police from agents of public safety into agencies of violent oppression and persecution. To take away peaceful engagement in non-violent free speech is a dangerous precedent which must be stopped!
On behalf of Orange County Green Party, of which I’m member of its central committee, which we call County Council, I cordially invite you to speak at our next General Meeting, scheduled for Sunday July 1, at 2pm, at Irvine Ranch Water District Headquarters. We hope you highlight the critical importance and value Greens place upon free speech, but encourage you to speak out on any topic, and to invite any guests you like. We hope to have media coverage of this event.
Once again, your words and actions speak for me! As you did as Libertarian candidate in former 72nd Assembly District 2010 race, you ably demonstrated leadership; find an issue, speak freely and with intelligence, reach out to others in participation and solidarity. I want you to know you have another friend in Irvine!
Thank you again for sharing circumstances of your recent arrest. We hope you can join
Orange County Green Party Sunday July 1, at 2pm, Irvine Ranch Water District
15600 Sand Canyon Ave. (in brand-new Community Meeting Center) in City of Irvine (about half-way between the 5 and 405 freeways).
As ever,
Sandy Stiassni
Councilmember
Orange County Green Party
