The Barack Obama Presidential Center (commonly referred to as Obama’s library and museum) is a privately funded complex in Chicago’s Jackson Park, managed by the Obama Foundation. It includes a museum, public library branch, forum, athletic facilities, and outdoor spaces—but notably, it does not house a traditional National Archives presidential library (Obama’s records are digitized and stored off-site by the federal government).Estimated CostThe project’s total estimated cost is $850 million, covering construction, exhibits, site work, and initial operations. This figure represents a significant increase from the original 2017 estimate of around $300 million, driven by design changes, inflation, labor/material costs, and legal delays. As of late 2024, the foundation had spent over $615 million, with the remainder projected for completion.
