It is relevant to note that Texas charges an import tariff on alcoholic beverages. If you buy alcohol in Mexico and cross into Texas, you will be directed by customs to the Texas state tariff collection site response from Orly: TX is not the only state, charging de fcto tariffs on imports. When Tesla owners were looking to start manufacturing, Gov Schwarzenegger waived state taxation in order to attract manufacturing here. Something similar is done around the nation, but it is not sufficient yet. In some states, if you are a welfare recipient, you might be denied the full amount of benefits and are paid only a rate of the state, from wich you came. This is done by some states in order to discourage welfare recipents from descending on such states and banktupting the state economy. Similarly, the states charge out of state residents higher tuition. while this is not a tariff per se, it discourages depletion of state resources. If proper protective measures are not implemented, the country and the states will be completely bankrupt. |
