Today, January 30, 2026, former CNN anchor and independent journalist Don Lemon appeared (or was scheduled to appear) in federal court in Los Angeles for a bond hearing following his arrest late Thursday night (January 29) by federal agents in Beverly Hills, California. He was in LA covering the Grammy Awards at the time. The arrest stems from his presence and coverage of a January 18, 2026, anti-ICE (Immigration and Customs Enforcement) protest at Cities Church in St. Paul, Minnesota. Protesters disrupted a church service to confront a pastor allegedly linked to ICE, leading to tense confrontations.Lemon faces federal charges, including:
- Conspiracy to deprive someone of their constitutional rights.
- Violation of the FACE Act (Freedom of Access to Clinic Entrances Act, applied here to interfering with religious exercise/first amendment rights by force or threats, though the protest was described as non-violent in some reports).
He was arrested along with three others (including journalist Georgia Fort and activists Trahern Jeen Crews and Jamael Lydell Lundy), with U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi announcing the arrests and describing the church incident as a “coordinated attack.”
