Chief Justice John Roberts responded to the application for stay in Trump v. Cook on September 19, 2025, by requesting a response from Federal Reserve Governor Lisa Cook by September 25, 2025. This deferred immediate action on the Trump administration’s emergency request to lift a lower court order blocking her removal from the Federal Reserve Board of Governors. Roberts, as the circuit justice for the D.C. Circuit, handles such initial filings, and this step allows the full Court to consider the matter further, with arguments scheduled for November 5, 2025. The case stems from Trump’s August 2025 attempt to fire Cook over alleged mortgage fraud, which she denies, following a D.C. Circuit ruling upholding a district court order reinstating her.
