A risky move

Posted on | November 30, 2017 | 2 Comments

It was reported that President Trump is planning to replace Secretary of State, Rex Tillerson, with Mike Pompeo, who is currently the director of CIA, and appoint Senator Tom Cotton to be the director of CIA.

In my opinion this might be a risky move. While I believe that the replacement of Tillerson with Pompeo is a good decision, I believe that taking Cotton out of the senate might be a risky move. GOP has a very slim majority, only 52 GOP senators. While Cotton comes from a mostly red state, elections are unpredictable. We are seeing this in Alabama, where suddenly accusations from 40 years ago endangered the GOP senate candidate, Roy Moore. The same might happen in Arkansas. For that reason, I believe that Trump would be better served by only replacing Tillerson with Pompeo, while appointing somebody else to be the director of CIA, without tapping a sitting US senator and without endangering the GOP majority
