Was Louisa Robinson the older sister of Rose Ella Robinson? In orthodox Jewish tradition when a woman dies and children are left motherless, the widower would first consider her younger sister as a second wife, as being the aunt of the motherless children, she would give them more love and care than any other woman.

also, I can’t see the street name on 1940 census. It is hand written andlooks like Liberty circle or Liberty acre 915 or 9/5 Is someone familiar with this area? what is the exact name of the street and the number of the house? Can we find Harry Bounel anywhere afterwards? When did Jim , Louisa and Rose Ella Robinson pass away and where?

OK. Now we know that it was 915 Elsmere Place. I need help in locating these neighbors, as well as descendants of Gabriel and Frazier Robinson

Barack Obama’s campaign hired genealogists to research the family’s roots at the onset of his presidential bid, but aides largely have kept the findings secret. Genealogists at Lowcountry Africana, a research center at the University of South Florida in Tampa, scoured documents to put together a 120-page report, said project director Toni Carrier. She said the center signed a confidentiality agreement and is not allowed to disclose the findings publicly.
Michelle Obama, wife of the Democratic presidential nominee, and Rabbi Capers Funnye, spiritual leader of a mostly black synagogue on Chicago’s South Side, are first cousins once removed. Funnye’s mother, Verdelle Robinson Funnye (born Verdelle Robinson) and Michelle Obama’s paternal grandfather, Frasier Robinson Jr., were brother and sister.
Funnye (pronounced fuh-NAY) is chief rabbi at the Beth Shalom B’nai Zaken Ethiopian Hebrew Congregation in southwest Chicago. He is well-known in Jewish circles for acting as a bridge between mainstream Jewry and the much smaller, and largely separate, world of black Jewish congregations, sometimes known as black Hebrews or Israelites. He has often urged the larger Jewish community to be more accepting of Jews who are not white.

    I’ve done extensive ancestry research and I’m certain address is 915 Elsmere Place. The census taker would write street name on the first page where the first family in the building was listed. This appears on page 25 and Harry Bounel is listed on page 26.

    The 1940 census for Harry Bounel shows Daly Ave. (Zoom in to see it). It shows 915 at the top but the page in the census before daly ave shows elsmere place which also shows 915. The street in the census AFTER daly ave shows crotona parkway and 915. all three on google maps in the same block.

    wiki page for “family of barack obama” shows jim robinson first marriage was to a louise then his second marriage was to a rose ella cohen. Michelles great,great grandfather was jim robinson. jim and louiser had a son fraser. fraser had a son fraser jr. fraser jr had a son fraser 3rd. fraser the 3rd is michelle’s father.

    My Heritage shows it as 915 Daly Ave also. Not sure now if it’s Daly or Elsmere Place.

    There is census information showing Bounel living with the Robinson’s. I have seen it. I hope I saved it to my files. I will keep looking.

    In the 1940 Census in the Bronx mentioned earlier in these posts at 915 Daly Ave., Harry is 50 years old (born 1890 in Russia), says he is a naturalized citizen and is married, however his wife is not shown living with him. He also says he has lived in the same place for the last 5 years and is lodging with Louis (age 61) and Blanche (age 42) Julius of Austria and their son David, 15 yrs born in NY. Louis and Blanche are both naturalized citizens and pay $36 dollars a month rent for their apartment. Louis works in a clothing factory, but Harry states his occupation as a helper in a fruit store where he works 48 hrs a week. His next door neighbors are Sam and Sarrah Cohen, both 36 yrs old and son Sidney who is 5 yrs old. Sam was also born in Russia, same as Harry. Sam’s occupation is Fruit Dealer. He is a naturalized citizen as well, but Sarrah and his son were born in NY. They pay $39 a month for their apartment and have also lived at the same address for the past 5 years. So these folks have known each other for a while. It seems to me that most likely that Harry is working for Sam Cohen. I bet they are both Russian Jews, given their surnames. It would be interesting to dig up their naturalization papers, probably filed in NY.
