Orly,
Shortly after sending this email, LTC Robert Manning (public affairs officer in charge of Lakin case) requested my phone number. He called me later on at about 6:20pm MST and I presented two questions to him:
1. Is keeping the President from being”embarrassed” enough of a legal foundation upon which to deprive an American serviceman of his 5th, 6th, and 14th Amend. Constitutional rights when said serviceman faces the possible loss of property, and liberty in the course of a general court martial?,
2. Did you take an Oath to defend the Constitution, or the President, against ALL enemies foreign AND domestic?
He would never answer the questions and continued to say that he was “not a coward” throughout the surprisingly long phone conversation. In between his angry retorts to my repeating the aforementioned questions, he tried to deflect attention away by complimenting me on my oratorical skills. I told him I didn’t give him my phone number for me to be shmoozed or bullshitted and I just wanted him to answer my 2 main questions.
I grew so frustrated with his insufferable tactics and pettiness that I finally told him to “see beyond your own self serving interests to the larger issue here (the Constitution and Terry Lakin), and just do your job!”, and hung up on him.
I was embarrassed for him. It was truly a sad experience for me.

Defensive, Mr. Manning acted very defensive. Curious, as why his repeating that he “was not a coward”, that must have really touched a raw nerve with him.
Curious…………….

Hello,
My question pertains to the Phone number listed at the end of the article…I take it that is the number to Mr. Doaks and not to mr. manning… Am I correct. I would sure love to ring mr. mannings’ phone.

Lt. Col. Manning,
Like Lt. Col. Lakin I am from Greeley, CO. and I also have serious reservations about Barry Soetoro, a.k.a., Barack Obama and his eligibility to hold the office that the American people have entrusted to him. But what truly troubles me as someone who holds a degree in History and Political Science, is the denial to Mr. Lakin’s defense the most basic legal rights afforded to EVERY AMERICAN CITIZEN, military or civilian. Gen. Horst, when the Dred Scott decision was handed down by the SCOTUS it was the law of the land. Yet, it is clear to all that it was not just. Sir, you have imprisoned in your care a man who has more courage and integrity in his little finger than you have in your entire command. I can assure you that, as a historian, the truth WILL one day be revealed. It may not happen in our lifetimes, but it will happen. Do you want it on your conscience that you aided and abetted in this travesty of justice? Do you want your memory and service to this country to be sullied and tarnished in the eyes of your children and grandchildren as a man who “went along” to “get along”? You took an oath to defend the Constitution of the United States of America-NOT THE PRESIDENT- from “all enemies, foreign and domestic.” It is profligate cowardice and fear that keeps you silent, sir. My faith in this countries military and its uniform code of justice has eroded away to nothing.
May God have Mercy on your Soul,
Thayne Doak
