In a move likely to cheer Laguna Niguel “birther” attorney Orly Taitz, the Arizona House has approved a bill that would require President Barack Obama to show his birth certificate if he wants to be on the state’s ballot for reelection.

The bill was approved 31-29 and now goes to the state Senate.

More from Politics and government

“Supporters say the bill would help settle a controversy over whether Obama was born in the United States,” according to this Associated Press story. “Opponents say it’s a waste of time that makes Arizona mocked by the rest of the country. Obama has released his Hawaii birth certificate proving he’s a ‘natural-born citizen’ qualified to be president.”

The bill comes on the heels of another by the Arizona Legislature – now awaiting the governor’s signature – that would give police the power to stop people on the street and ask for proof that they’re in the country legally.

“The bill comes on the heels of another by the Arizona Legislature – now awaiting the governor’s signature – that would give police the power to stop people on the street and ask for proof that they’re in the country legally.”

    NOT TRUE!

I appreciate you supporting my home state of AZ. Please note though that SB 1070 does NOT “stop people on the street and ask for proof that they’re in the country legally.” Police officers can only stop people if they have “probable cause” (crime or some other offense) and then have “reasonable suspicion” that they are in our country illegally (no ID). Obama is perpetuating the lie that if “you take your kids out for ice cream that they can be harassed and asked for their paperwork.” This is UNTRUE!

Please post a disclaimer that the last paragraph of this article is untrue. Thank you.

Kathryn K. – To corroborate your statements, You are absolutely CORRECT.

I cannot believe Obama lied they way he did.
Oh well, Yes I can at that. The man himself, his whole life story and everything he does, says and is- is a great big lie!

Expanding the definition, if there is one:

“Patriot”, “Constitutionalist” “Founding Documents Supporter” “Tyranny Hater”, these words are all proper meanings that may be attached to the imbecilic word “Birther”.
