ROME—Pope Francis met privately Thursday with a Sudanese woman who refused to recant her Christian faith in the face of a death sentence, blessing the woman as she cradled her infant born just weeks ago in prison.

    God’s speed Mariam and family. May God and His Angels protect and bless all of you all the days of your lives. May the U.S. remain a true haven where you may all live in peace–life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. You are a shining example of Faith, Courage and Commitment in the face of persecution. May I take that inspiration into my own life of service to God and others–remaining steadfast during times of trial and distress. Thank you. Thank you. Your husband is another example of Patience and Love during a very difficult time in your marriage–prayers for him as a husband, father and his challenging illness…
