Ted Cruz is right, GOP is making a big mistake by taking away many deductions. I believe GOP might lose a lot of seats, including control of the House, if they take away deductions for state and local taxes and mortgage deduction

Posted on | November 8, 2017 | 27 Comments

This weekend my husband and I attended an event. We were seated next to a couple of longtime Republican supporters and donors. These people were extremely angry. I’ve known this couple for over 10 years and I never saw the husband so angry. He stated that he was a Republican for many years and he will not vote for Republicans ever again, if GOP passes this current tax bill and takes away from people their deductions for state and local taxes and mortgage deduction.  He felt that the property value of houses might go down by about 20% and many GOP donors will not vote for GOP.

Senator Ted Cruz is saying that taking away or drastically cutting deductions for local and state taxes is a big mistake. Cruz  is saying that instead GOP should abolish Obamacare tax, which would leave more money in the pockets of the tax payers and more taxable income that will help to balance the budget.

I believe that yesterday’s gubernatorial elections in VA and NJ are a warning shot for GOP. Remember, New Jersey voted for the Republican Governor twice just 4 years ago and 8 years ago, yet this time they voted for the Democrat by a big margin. The same is true in Virginia. Just two years ago Gillespie lost his senate bid in VA by only 1%. This time he lost by 8%. A lot of voters are angry with the GOP plan to take away from the taxpayers there deduction for state taxes and cutting the property deduction to $10,000, as well as cutting the mortgage deduction.

GOP has 47 seat majority in the House. Democrats need to flip 24 seats to get the House. Just three states, California, New York and New Jersey, where there are high state taxes and  the voters are extremely angry about GOP taking away their state deductions, have about 28 GOP congressmen. If current GOP bill passes and those deductions are taken away from the livid voters, GOP can lose many of their seats in those blue states. Moreover, a total of 29 GOP congressmen from all over the country, including a number from Texas, announced their retirement or their decision to run for other offices. Incumbents usually get reelected by a 90% margin. The fact that so many GOP incumbents are  leaving, is a real danger to the GOP majority.

In my opinion it is not too late for the GOP  to change it’s tax plan and leave the state and local tax deductions as they are, as well as mortgage deduction, and instead abolish the Obamacare tax, which is extremely unpopular.

Has anyone considered that since the dems and pubs work together on so many things they might actually want to lose the house. Does it ever really change anything in Washington regardless?

Truly think many American voters are stupid. They vote repub and when he fails them they give it to a democrat. Idiots through and through. Voting conservative and voting for those who have demonstrated conservative values almost never get considered. They vote the same kind of mpeople in over and over whether repub or democrat. I think America deserves Socialism. The way they vote they seem to say “Come back Hitler”. Oh wait the Hitler part comes after socialism light and unfortunte after that there’s no turning back,.

I believe too many deductions is one reason people have to hire their taxes done. The tax code in ridiculously complex and it’s almost impossible to get the “correct” answer to questions about one’s income tax, especially if you call the IRS. Many people reflexively believe losing a deduction is going to cost them, often without looking at what their net tax payment is going to be. It’s like welfare, you can give it, but you can’t take it away. I want a system where most people can do their taxes on a post card.

It’s also like Social Security, any politician who wants to “change” it is beat up by the media and the opposition party, even if not changing it is sure to be a disaster.

Nothing gets done because of partisan politics and the fact that doing nothing is often the easiest path to reelection. Too many people want something done, but if had better not ever have any negative effect on them.

Try letting the Democrats regain power and see how you like their tax changes……unless you are one of the soon to be majority who pays no federal income tax, you won’t.

I think many of the repubs have started to think like the dems, “tax & spend”. We need a new party.

Nobody is talking about the real problem. The “Dems” have replaced the “God and Family” culture with a sex and drug addicted tax and deficit spending one. It’s a dead end. It could not be more obvious. Our school teachers used to teach the students to love each other. Now they are taught how to seduce each other.

Here is what John Srossel, a libertarian, says about the mortgage and state tax deductions.

    From his article 11-08-2017

“One of the most unfair tax breaks is the mortgage interest deduction. It encourages rich people to buy more homes than we need. It exacerbates housing bubbles.

Trump merely proposed cutting the maximum deduction to half-a-million dollars. But even that has the swamp creatures screaming, “Unfair!”

Jerry Howard of the National Association of Home Builders says he will fight that “tooth and nail.” He claims it “is a direct assault on the American dream of homeownership.”

Bunk. Canada has no mortgage deduction, yet Canada’s homeownership rate is higher than the United States’. The big mortgage deduction is welfare for the rich.

But people like Howard have clout. Homebuilders and mortgage bankers give politicians money.

Likewise, even some Republicans in high-tax states like New York and New Jersey now are whining about losing state tax deductibility. They fear voter backlash in their districts.

Once again, Congress ends up fighting over who gets the biggest cuts instead of the overall tax haul and size of government.”

I hate to see Ted Cruz capitalize on anything because he is an easy man to really really hate who is not a natural born citizen but ran for President anyway. He is correct in saying that we should not take away deductions such as house deductions, state and local taxes deduction. However, if it can be shown that the revised taxes take into consideration these deductions then OK.

People are really stupid. They get pissed if they lose their deductions, and vote for Democrats to keep their deductions….and then pay out way more to support the increased Democrat supported flood of refugees (including the terrorist factor) and other illegal aliens, as well as deal with a down economy again, including fewer jobs, etc. People are really stupid.

What a shameless miserable nation! They turned against criminal GOP only when GOP stepped on some of their benefits, but they do not have anything against GOP which is responsible for the 2008-2016 usurpation still unexposed! Go on idiots running like a deer between two lights. You are doomed anyway… https://judeochristianamerica.org/NoShameAmerica.htm

Well, a lot of the posts are right!

And this is the biggest reason why all the voters who don’t know (HOW!) to vote need to read Orlys’ Site!

Man, I’ll you, I peppered the U.S.A. with making contact with one heck of a lot of people in the last two elections…

So this should not continue to be happening!

Someone somewhere, when I sent out ‘mails, did not continue to contact others, and then, have them contact more Americans!

By now, Americans need to really learn just who is doing what!

But…also, the swamper news is getting away with murder, by not informing the public about all the nwo swamp ding dongs we continue to have to put up with!

There is one of the biggest problems we have: the swamper news!~

To Rich: No! Speaking about counterproductive, it is counterproductive to blame ONLY LIBERAST. Most of the criminal GOP and the so called conservatives surely are not liberal or liberast, but it is they which deserve the blame! Is is they which still cherish GOP and dream about remaking it instead of prosecuting it and joining the Judeo-Christian America! It’s degenerate America which stays attached to de facto one party system!

The constitution of the USSR admitted existence of only one party – the Communist! Yes! Seriously! That was the Brezhnev’s constitution! How are you better?!

Yeah…I agree with everyone that responded to Rich!

Hey, If (We Need Orly Poster) peppered the nation with Orlys’ Site, it wouldn’t make a fat rat’s petute about the liberals getting away with something!

Once the entire nation knows about something this evil, it wouldn’t take long to get this solved, IMO!

And there is a certain type of Executive Order that can be written…that will help solve the problem of not being able to handle the entire matter we face now!

It’s just a question of WHEN!!!!!

I wonder if any of these indictments have anything to do with whats being investigated in and around Washington D.C.

33 sealed indictments file in dc district court and yesterday 50 sealed indictments filed in the US District Court of Virginia, something is happening finally!

    Richard,

I agree, there are many things in the swamp both parties are struggling to keep under cover. Nothing would make the swamp critters happier and more sure there cover will succeed than a Democrat majority in Congress…….even better for them than having a bunch of RINO’s in a Republican majority.

Alex: your beginning statement is the same old waste of time…

More piling on of the wrongs in America.

Why don’t you post something positive…as like that you’ll do something to change that negative statement and you’ll lead a march on Wash D.C. to let the swampers know that you really do mean business?

    A miserable nation, huh?

You post like all you do is complain and sit at home and make negative comments about the nation you moved to!

Now, why would you stay here, if you hate America that bad?

    Tiresome!

it is a civil case in the courtroom of an Obama appointee, Tanya Chutkan. Don’t expect much to happen there

  23. John
    November 12th, 2017 @ 7:17 am

    Kay, Orly,
I know about this case, George Webb Sweigert is a reporter that has a YouTube channel, https://www.youtube.com/user/georgwebb. He’s been investigating the Hillary/DC Swamp for over a year now, and he has filed cases several times in DC court to get this going. The first two cases were thrown out. I haven’t read this case yet, but I hear that he may be heard and yes this is an Obama pointed judge, the same Judge that has been mysteriously removed in the Fusion GPS/Podesta case and replaced with John Podesta’s buddy that teached law at Georgetown Univ.Law School with J.Podesta.

  24. John
    November 12th, 2017 @ 7:40 am

Judge Richard Leon is friends with John Podesta,
    https://www.spartareport.com/2017/11/judge-presiding-over-the-fusion-gps-case-teaches-and-is-friends-with-john-podesta/
Judge Richard Leon should recuse himself from this case for a conflict of interest and AG Sessions should move the trial out of Washington DC, there are two many Rats still in the swamp in DC.

    https://www.thegatewaypundit.com/2017/11/conservative-judge-benchslapped-lawyers-release-hillary-clinton-documents-takes-fusion-gps-case/

Now who gave the order to remove Judge Tanya Chutkan and replace her with Judge Richard Leon? I’ll tell you who, Loretta Lynch that’s who, orders from B. Obama himself.

    Wow! Ah…

John, Kay, Orly: I just saw an article on Google that said that Hillary and Bill are splitting…no more marriage!!!!!

I don’t have time to see if it has a copyright notice…as I seem to be “out of time” on many occasions…

So have to leave this to my statement! So don’t know if this is for real or not!

If I can, I’ll try to find this on Tuesday or Wednesday?
