There’s just been a major development for a Christian facing hanging.

Asia Bibi will have her final appeal heard by the Supreme Court in the second week of October. Her fate could be decided in just weeks. This Christian mother is on death row – sentenced to hang – for her faith. She was charged, convicted, and sentenced to be executed for blasphemy. It all started over a cup of water Asia Bibi offered a Muslim coworker – because as a Christian, she is considered “unclean.”

Now Pakistan’s Supreme Court will decide whether she will die for her Christian faith.

The hearing will be Bibi’s last chance to overturn the decision which sentenced her to death in 2010 under Pakistan’s controversial blasphemy laws.

Bibi’s lawyer told the persecution charity International Christian Concern (ICC): “I will appear before the Supreme Court of Pakistan and argue her case while she will remain in prison. “I hope the result will be an acquittal.”

The Supreme Court of Pakistan accepted her petition for the case to be reviewed on July 22, 2015 and her death sentence was suspended. At the time, her lawyer Malook said he was “optimistic” the court would acquit Bibi. “The standard of evidence which is required to prove [this] offense is not available in this case,” he said.

“If decided on the merits, we believe the court’s only conclusion will be to acquit. That decision will lay a foundation for practical steps toward religious harmony in Pakistan and will be a signal that justice will prevail over extremism in Pakistan’s courts even when a religious minority is accused of blasphemy.”

If Asia Bibi wins her appeal it is expected she will be forced to go into exile with her family. If her appeal is overruled, her only chance of avoiding execution would be through a presidential pardon.

“Now that you know me, tell those around you what is happening,” Bibi pleads with readers at the close of her autobiography told to a French journalist. “Let them know about it. I believe this is my only chance of not dying in the pit of this dungeon. I need you! Save me!”

Whoever has ears, let him hear . . .

Pakistani Islamists gathered only recently to demand the immediate execution of Asia Bibi. There is tremendous pressure on the court and on the judges by thousands of Islamists to uphold the conviction and death sentence. It is absolutely imperative that the court and the judges know and understand that the whole world is watching.

Please take just a moment to sign these three petitions – between them are over 1.2 million signatures.

Asia Bibi urgently needs our voice (and our prayers) – now – before it’s forever too late.

From her memoir, told to a French journalist and recently translated.

” At that moment, I was hit in the face. My nose is hurting. I am bleeding. I am half stunned. They pull me as though I were a stubborn donkey. I can do nothing other than suffer and pray that it stops. I look at the crowd that seems to triumph at my feeble resistance. I stagger. The blows fall onto my legs, onto my back, behind my head… “Do you want to convert, to belong to a religion worthy of the name?” “No, please, I am a Christian , I beg you…” And with the same fury, they continue to beat me. One arm is really hurting. I think it may be broken. “Death to the Christian!” the angry mob scream…”

This is how, in a newly-translated memoir, Asia Bibi describes the day of her arrest on 14th June 2009. An illiterate Catholic farm worker from a remote Punjabi village, she had been harvesting berries on the estate of a wealthy landowner alongside her fellow co-workers in 45 degrees heat. Parched with thirst, she drew water from the estate well, dipped her cup into the bucket and gratefully drank big mouthfuls. No sooner had the cup left her lips than one of the farm hands, “her eyes filled with hatred’, ‘screamed out “haraam!”, a term meaning ‘forbidden in Islamic law’. Turning to a gathering mob she screamed: “this Christian has defiled the water from the well by drinking from our cup and by repeatedly plunging it into the well. The water is now impure! We can no longer drink it because of her!”

Arrested under Section 295c of the Pakistan Penal Code which forbids blaspheming against the Prophet Mohammed, Asia Bibi, a mother of five, was imprisoned for 18 months pending a trial. In November 2010 Muhammed Iqbal, a judge at the court of Sheikhupura, sentenced her to death by hanging to the delight of a cheering crowd. Asia describes the moment like this: “I cried alone, putting my head in my hands. I can no longer bear the sight of people full of hatred, applauding the killing of a poor farm worker. I no longer see them, but I still hear them, the crowd who gave the judge a standing ovation, saying “Kill her, kill her! Allah akbar.” The court house is invaded by a euphoric horde who break down the doors, chanting, “Vengeance for the holy Prophet, Allah is great!” I was then thrown like an old rubbish-sack into the van… I had lost all humanity in their eyes.”

Pakistan: might want to consider very carefully that their decision could become a very strong case for American businesses who outsource their products!

I know that this nation does make towels for Americans, in Pakistan!

Why would they want to choose to possibly stop themselves from making products to ship back to America, if Trump gets elected???

This young lady has done nothing wrong!
