After Trump’s landslide victory in Indiana, Donnelly must know by now that he’s not getting reelected no matter which way he votes if Indiana has the same turnout again. Also, he already voted to confirm Justice Goresuch, but that was because the SCOTUS balance wasn’t effected. If Donnelly confirms Kavanaugh after he already confirmed Gorsuch, he can forget about any democratic support. So he either confirms Kavanaugh right before he’s voted out (doubtful), or he opposes Kavanaugh, then gets voted out, but he’s hailed as the one true hero of the democrat party. Since he will inevitably get voted out anyway, there’s no incentive for Donnelly to support Kavanaugh.
