Supervisor Asks Woman To Take Down American Flag

MANSFIELD (CBS 11 News) ―

Is it okay to show your patriotism at the office?

For one Arlington woman, the answer was “no” after she hung an American flag in her office just before the Memorial Day weekend.

Debbie McLucas is one of four hospital supervisors at Kindred Hospital in Mansfield. Last week, she hung a three-by-five foot American flag in the office she shares with the other supervisors.

When McLucas came to work Friday, her boss told her another supervisor had found her flag offensive. “I was just totally speechless. I was like, ‘You’re kidding me,'” McLucas said.

McLucas’ husband and sons are former military men. Her daughter is currently serving in Iraq as a combat medic.

Stifling a cry, McLucas said, “I just wonder if all those young men and women over there are really doing this for nothing.”

McLucas said the supervisor who complained has been in the United States for 14 years and is formerly from Africa. McLucas said the supervisor took down Debbie’s flag herself.

“The flag and the pole had been placed on the floor,” McLucas said. But McLucas also said hospital higher ups had told her some patients’ families and visitors had also complained.

“I was told it wouldn’t matter if it was only one person,” she said. “It would have to come down.”

McLucas said hospital bosses told her as far as patriotism was concerned, the flag flying outside the hospital building would have to suffice.

Kindred Hospital Corporate Headquarters are located in Kentucky. They have yet to make a final decision on the matter. They have not returned our phone calls for comment.

The Kindred Hospital Corporation was chosen as Fortune’s most admired for 2009. McLucas hopes they’ll back her patriotism.

“I find it very frightening because if I can’t display my flag, what other freedoms will I lose before all is said and done,” McLucas asked.

    I was shocked to see this in the news. My nephew, who served in the Gulf War with the 82nd Airborne Division of the Army, is actually a nurse at this hospital. I’ve contacted him for more of the inside scoop. I’m quite sure this corporation doesn’t want this kind of publicity, especially knowing the community that it serves. Time for damage control.

    Anyone not happy in America should leave America. We are not Italy, Spain, Greece or AFRIGA the land of HATE and WAR.
    Let the AFRICAN get DEPORTED IMMEDIATELY because he is NOT AMERICAN in my view.

    Oh My Gosh. If and when I am in a foreign country I am never offended by the display of their country patriotism. I am sure that if there was a problem in the hospital maybe they should check who is paying the medicaid bills for those patients… supervisors… salaries…???…….. mmmm I think that would be the sweat blood and tears as well as MY TAXES so she can go right on back to Africa where most people (Ive been there) wouldnt be offended as they have either been or WANT to be here. Give me a break… really people.

    patients family complained? another supervisor complained? They should be told to go get their health care somewhere else if looking at the American flag while someone keeps them healthy is too much of a issue. If the other supervisor doesn’t like it then they don’t have to work there.

    Being the kind and gentle person I am, I would have shown the ‘whiny’ African supervisor to the door and made sure it hit he/she/it damn hard in the ass. As for the whiny maggot patients their families and the visitors, find another hospital! You don’t care for America we will not care for you!

    This is so totally unreal…..we must not be silent about this. I would love to know what the people in this town are doing about it!! Are they calling/visiting the hospital and letting their voices be heard?? If an American living in America cannot display an American flag, then we have already lost the battle. If we ALL do not stand up to this disgusting incident, then those that do not stand..will deserve what they get…no more freedom.

    You think this is bad, just wait till the obamination gets his ‘Brown Shirts’ in gear. I suppose that all I can hope for is the military will not obey the obamunists’ orders.
    I would like to make a recommendation to people that are interested in doing something; try to organize a “Walk-A-Thon” to solicit donations for Dr. Orly in her pursuit of justice.
