   The worst thing is that Brewer is unable to articulate an acceptable reason as to why she vetoed the bill.

   Greta Van Susteren read part of Brewer’s letter to the AZ House Speaker (Kirk Adams) where she says “I do not support designating one person as the gatekeeper to the ballot for a candidate which could lead to an arbitrary or politically motivated decision.” Brewer said in response “I just have to call ’em as I see ’em and it doesn’t help Arizona. This bill is a distraction and we just need to simply get on with the state’s business.”

   That sounds like a bunch of mumbo jumbo to me. It’s absolutely senseless. So, what she is saying is that the Secretary of State for Arizona should never keep anyone off the ballot. That would be acting as a gatekeeper. I think some ambitious 20-year old should run for President and see if the “non-gatekeeper” lets him/her on the ballot. Throw in a Mexican citizen while you’re at it. I guess now the door is wide open in Arizona and there is no check on candidate qualifications by the SOS.

   Current Arizona law states the following:

   ARS 16-311 “D. All persons desiring to become a candidate shall file with the nomination paper provided for in subsection A an affidavit which shall be printed in a form prescribed by the secretary of state. The affidavit shall include facts sufficient to show that, other than the residency requirement provided in subsection A, the candidate will be qualified at the time of election to hold the office the person seeks.”

   So, Arizona already requires a candidate to file an affidavit with sufficient facts to show that they are eligible to hold the office that they seek. HB 2177 just added more specifics about what evidence was necessary to prove that the candidate was eligible for the office of President and directed the SOS not to put the candidate’s name on the ballot if the evidence was not provided.

   Brewer’s excuse for the veto isn’t believable. There is something else going on here. The legislature should override her veto and Brewer should be recalled.

   PHOENIX – Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer on Monday vetoed a bill that would have required President Barack Obama and other presidential candidates to prove their U.S. citizenship before their names could appear on the state’s ballot.

   The bill would have made Arizona the first state to pass such a requirement. Opponents had warned the bill would give another black eye to Arizona after last year’s controversy over the state’s illegal immigration enforcement law.

   Brewer said in her veto letter that she was troubled that the bill empowered Arizona’s secretary of state to judge the qualifications of all candidates when they file to run for office.

   “I do not support designating one person as the gatekeeper to the ballot for a candidate, which could lead to arbitrary or politically motivated decisions,” said Brewer, who was secretary of state until she became governor in 2009.

   “In addition, I never imagined being presented with a bill that could require candidates for president of the greatest and most powerful nation on Earth to submit their ‘early baptismal circumcision certificates’ among other records to the Arizona secretary of state,” she said. “This is a bridge too far.”

   The certificates were among the documents a candidate could have submitted under the bill in place of a birth certificate.

   So-called “birthers” claim there’s no proof Obama was born in the United States, and he is therefore ineligible to be president. But Hawaii officials have certified Obama was born in that state.

   The U.S. Constitution requires that presidential candidates be “natural-born” U.S. citizens, be at least 35 years old, and be a resident of the United States for at least 14 years. Opponents questioned whether Arizona’s bill would have added additional requirements.

   The measure would have required that political parties and presidential candidates hand in affidavits stating a candidate’s citizenship and age. It also would have required the candidate’s birth certificate and a sworn statement saying where the candidate has lived for 14 years.

   If candidates didn’t have a copy of their birth certificates, they could meet the requirement by providing baptismal or circumcision certificates, hospital birth records and other documents.

   If it couldn’t be determined whether candidates who provided documents in place of their birth certificates were eligible to appear on the ballot, the secretary of state would have been able to set up a committee to help determine whether the requirements were met. The names of candidates could be kept off the ballot if the secretary of state didn’t believe the candidates met the citizenship requirement.

   The bill didn’t explicitly provide an appeals process for a candidate whose name was kept off the ballot.

   The bill’s sponsor, Republican Rep. Carl Seel of Phoenix, declined immediate comment on Monday’s veto. But he previously said that the president’s birth record wouldn’t satisfy the requirements of his proposal and that Obama would have to provide other records, such as baptismal certificates and hospital records.

   The measure, however, wasn’t intended as a swipe against the president — it was meant to maintain the integrity of elections, Seel said.

   I read that government has divided USA into 10 regions with 10 governors instead of 50 governors and Brewer is one of those 10 governors.

   The government has divided the USA into 10 regions w/10 governors, in case of emergency. Obama named 10 governors, Brewer is one of the 10.

   When the government divided the USA into 10 regions with 10 governors, in case of emergency. Obama appointed 10 governors, back at beginning of his administration. Brewer is one of the 10 governors.

   I’m down here in Louisiana. I’ll do whatever I can to help push it through. I’ve all ready talked to the Sect. of States office about the issue. I’ve met Jindal twice and he seems to be strait forward. We’ll see. He is a staunch conservative. His actions will tell the tale!

   Very Bad News! TRAITOR Gov Brewer vetoed the bill! After Obama filed unconstitutional charges against Arizona, numerous citizens requested she file a quo warranto suit against him! She took all the free air time she could get to belittle him and promote her re-election for governor! She refused to file the suit and it only took her 3 months to tell the people to go to hell(she doesn’t care what THEY DEMAND now that she got re-elected) Please let this be a BIG LESSON to NOT TRUST or BELIEVE ANY POLITICIAN who did not honor their oath to the constitution within a timely manner(a month or two) or those that start singing a different tune pandering for votes ONLY! They will TURN ON U same as Brewer turned on Arizona!

    Hey I’m with you it hurt to hear that news my heart thumped. I really believed in Jan Brewer but she sold out. She bowed down to the Marxist scum. And if doesn’t get thrown out before 2012 we will make this the campaign issue so that all republicans will have to answer for why they knowingly allowed this Illegal President to remain in oval office and especially in the condition the Country is in with traitors all desperate for their turn to rob taxpayers and get theirs. Jan Brewer turned evil.
