Jewish congresswoman in critical condition after shot in Arizona shooting spree

Gunman shot Arizona lawmaker Gabrielle Giffords while she was holding a public event in Tucson; at least six people dead.

U.S. Representative Gabrielle Giffords was shot in the head and an unknown number of others were wounded Saturday when an assailant opened fire in an area where the lawmaker was meeting with constituents in Tucson.

A hospital official said Giffords is out of surgery, still under anesthesia, and doctors said they were optimistic about her recovery

The wounded included some of Gifford’s aides who were with her at the time.

18 people were reportedly shot in the attack and at least six are dead, including federal judge John Roll and a nine-year-old child.

The FBI and local law enforcement are investigating the attack, which took place while Giffords was greeting constituents outside a Tucson grocery store.

A shooter is reportedly in custody.

U.S. President Barack Obama called the shooting “an unspeakable tragedy” and that such “a senseless and terrible act of violence has no place in a free society.”

Giffords, 40, was re-elected to her third term last November, edging a tea party favorite. She was a member of the Arizona House and Senate before coming to Washington.

In 2006, Giffords was the first Jewish woman to be elected as a congresswoman in Arizona.

    Orly:…Also, on Coast to Coast, the first guest on did mention something about the type of hand-gun…it supposedly was a “Glock,” with about [1?] shots?? This is a weapon that “police” use! But this can also be one that can be “sold”!

    And I’d be curious to know Who was the shooter? Was he a “citizen?” An “illegal?” (R)? (D)? Conservative? Lefty? Does he have a “record?” Was the shooter “white?” “Black?” “Other?” Was he from Az? Somewhere else?

    It almost appears that someone “may” be trying to get hand-guns “taken off the street,” with this violent act?? Am wondering if this entire “spree” was “orchestrated” to “divert” attention from other matters in Congress??

    Notice how this happened in Az…where the New Law on “illegals” began in July of last year!

    This info will probably get more “revealing” as time goes on?!
