Debbie: if you were arrested while standing on the “sidewalk,” they had no legal right to arrest you, nor to even ask you to leave!
The sidewalk is “public property” and all citizens have the right to stand and/or walk on the sidewalk, without having anyone arrest you! I’d sue ’em blind!! You and Orly should “clean up,” in this suit!!!

Was the sidewalk a public sidewalk on the city right-of-way?
If it is, then how can she be charged with trespassing on private property?
Would they have done that if she had a Salvation Army kettle along with her clipboard?

If the sidewalk has features of a public forum, she is entitled to seek signatures there. This sidewalk had attributes of the public forum, as for the longest time they had a community bulletin board there. This is an air tight case against the City of Costa Mesa, their police department and Mothers market
