As I understand the issue, some in the medical insurance industry have sent their patients’ digital data on medical insurance claims which would include Soc. Sec. numbers, birthdates, other personal info to countries such as India for digital processing, and the laws we have here in the U.S. that protect our medical and claims info (HIPAA) are not available to protect us when our medical and claims info is accessed by people in India and other outsourced countries, thereby opening up American patients to ID fraud with no recourse in the U.S. courts.
