Israel: Proposed New 8-Step Plan to Stem Wave of Terror
Boruch Shubert
A Likud Party leader proposed in the Knesset on Wednesday an eight-step plan to handle the recent wave of terror and turmoil in Israel in the form of temporary legislation. The plan’s purpose is to enable the Jewish state to enforce a crackdown on terrorists, along with their families and supporters.
MK Yariv Levin’s plan, which he said he formulated at the request of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, will provide the police and security establishment the tools with the tools they need to create “real deterrence.”
As reported by Ynet, the bill lays out eight central moves:
- Israeli Arabs who are caught being involved in any way with terror will automatically lose their citizenship – or Palestinian Authority residency, in the case of Palestinians.
- After completing their prison term, all terrorists will be deported from Israel.
- Those killed during their attempt to carry out a terrorist attack will not receive a funeral.
- The bodies of slain terrorists will not be transferred to their families, but will instead be buried in an unknown location, without any ceremony and without future access for their families.
- Terrorists’ houses will be destroyed within 24 hours of the attack they have committed.
- Masked stone throwers and those inciting for terrorist and violent acts, participating in illegal protests in which firebombs or fireworks were thrown, will be arrested and held in remand until the completion of all legal procedures against them. The same measures will be taken against those who waved an ‘enemy flag’ during the protests, including the Palestinian flag. Anyone convicted at the end of their remand will forfeit their social welfare benefits and driving license for a period of 10 years.
- Families of terrorists will lose their citizenship and will be deported to Gaza if they express support for their relative’s criminal act. Support warranting such punishment can be expressed through public or social media.
- The bill even incorporates a clause that would close businesses and printing presses that print posters declaring support for acts of terror or terrorists.
The bill additionally stipulates that a business can now request the police to inform them whether any of their employees has ever been held in relation to a security-related offense and give them the right to fire an employee with such a record.
